Mission Statement

"We endeavour to provide a quality education to all our students in a caring, disciplined and respectful environment. We aim to prepare students for life and responsible citizenship and motivate them towards the achievement of their full potential".

Characteristic Spirit Statement

Bunclody Community College is a multi-denominational and co-educational school. This means that our school welcomes and celebrates every individual and their unique values. Our vision is to provide a caring, inclusive, and dynamic educational environment where every student is empowered to reach their full academic potential. We are committed to fostering a culture of respect, responsibility, and resilience, where students are encouraged to develop not only their academic abilities but also their personal and social skills. Our school’s ethos is underpinned by five
core values. These are:

  • Excellence in Education;
  • Care;
  • Equality;
  • Community and
  • Respect

At Bunclody Community College, we promote our core values every day through classroom learning, extracurricular activities, and our strong links with the wider community. We encourage all students to demonstrate and embody these values in their daily school lives.

This can be shown through simple but meaningful actions, such as saying “please” and “thank you”, holding a door open for others, helping a fellow student, or showing kindness and respect in everyday interactions. It is these values, reflected in both small and significant actions, that underpin our school community. By embracing our core values, students help to create a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and proud to belong.

Our school provides a physical and social environment that reinforces a sense of belonging to the school community and wider society. We strive to enable every student to realise their full potential regardless of any aspect of their identity or background. We promote a fully inclusive education that recognises the plurality of identities, beliefs and values held by students, parents and staff. We prepare open-minded, culturally sensitive and responsible citizens with a strong sense of shared values.

As a school, we define a ‘multidenominational’ school in the following way:

In our school, all students are given equal opportunities for enrolment in line with the Education (Admissions to School) Act 2018. Once enrolled, we strive to provide all students with equal opportunities to engage with the curriculum and school life. In all aspects of school life all members of our school community are treated equitably regardless of their race, gender, religion/belief, age, family status, civil status, membership of the Traveller community, sexual orientation, ability or socio-economic status.

In Bunclody Community College, students of all religions and beliefs are treated equally. The school environment and activities do not privilege any particular group over another whilst at the same time acknowledging and facilitating students of all religions and beliefs.

Nurturing the Individual

At Bunclody Community College we are acutely aware of the challenges faced by first year students as they transfer from Primary to Post Primary education. We believe that it is our responsibility to ensure that this transition is as smooth as possible. We are also of the view that happy, contented students are more likely to succeed in their education. With this in mind we have put a comprehensive pastoral care/support system in place for all students in our care.

Our year long in first year subject option programme allows students to explore all subjects on offer on our Junior Cycle curriculum. Having uncovered their interests and talents we then provide a bespoke curriculum aimed at meeting the needs and aspirations of all students. The close knit student body that exists in our school is unique and allows each individual to flourish. All lessons are delivered in a classroom environment that is based on openness and mutual respect. We are renowned for the ethos of care which permeates our school as well as our student's academic achievement. The broad range of extra-curricular activities on offer also promote the development of the 'whole' person. They also ensure that our students have an enjoyable and memorable second level school experience.
