A message from our Parent's Council
We appreciate that many parents throughout the country are concerned about the cost of education during this difficult period. Growing inflation, increasing energy and mortgage costs and the rising cost of living is impacting on most people in society. To ease some of your fears, the Parents’ Association of Bunclody Community College would like to bring to your attention the benefits to be gained by students who attend our school in these challenging times.
Our current student population of 260 students means that our school enjoys one of the lowest teacher-pupil ratios in the county. This allows our teachers to spend more individual time with all students, thereby, increasing their chances of reaching their full potential. The schools book rental charge also represents excellent value for money as it also covers the cost of the students journal, their locker, and most class materials. This fee also provides student wit 24 hour accident insurance.
The teachers, parents, school management and Board of Management constantly strive to ensure that the best resources are available to support student learning and to facilitate the many ways in which children learn. All students have access to excellent computer facilities and all classrooms are now equipped with data projectors and internet access.
Other benefits to be gained from attending BCC include our free breakfast and hot lunch as well as our free supervised homework club which is available to all students.
It is not by chance that our children do so well at Bunclody Community College as no resources can match the commitment and dedication of the staff at the College. The excellent examination results, the numerous awards that the students’ have won over the years, and the broad range of extra curricular activities, are testament to the extra hours put in by our dedicated staff.
The school has a well disciplined environment and a child centered approach to learning which results in a friendly but disciplined learning environment in the school. We are very proud of our schools tradition and children's record of achievement. Graduates of BCC are scattered throughout the country and the globe in a host of professional and other skilled areas of work.
The Parents Association have liaised closely with the school and has helped it to progress a number of exciting developments over the years. These included the provision of our radio station equipment as well as additional IT equipment and resources in practical subject areas that benefit all students. We will also be providing an Astroturf facility as part of our new extension. We have been fundraising for the past two years with this in mind.
We would like to thank all those parents who take an active role in our Association. As parents have an essential role in our child’s education and the Parent’s Association is our voice in that process.
