It was certainly a memorable three days for 70 Bunclody Community College students and staff who ventured into the Wicklow Wilderness as part of their Gaisce – The President’s Award journey.
Gaisce is Ireland’s national youth award, encouraging young people to challenge themselves, develop new skills, become more physically active and make a positive contribution to their communities. The Adventure Journey is an important part of the award, giving students the opportunity to develop resilience, independence and teamwork while taking on a challenge in the outdoors.
Our Silver Award participants spent three days completing their Adventure Journey in the Wicklow mountains, while our Bronze participants joined the group on Day 2.
A huge thank you goes to Ms V. Wheelock, Lead Teacher, Ms M. O’Neill and Mr B. Byrne, who supported and guided our Silver participants throughout the three days. Special thanks also go to Mr Byrne for taking on the additional task of transporting the students’ considerable collection of extra bags!
On Day 2, our Bronze participants arrived, accompanied by Ms M. Boggan and Mr A. Laidlaw, who supported the students as they completed this important stage of their Gaisce journey.
We would like to sincerely thank all of the staff members involved for their time, dedication and commitment. Their support ensured that our students could take on this challenge in a safe, positive and enjoyable environment.
While everyone returned home very tired, there were plenty of smiles to show for three days of adventure, teamwork and achievement!
