Our first-year students at Bunclody Community College recently enjoyed a fantastic First Year Bonding Day, bringing together the students from 1 Ash and 1 Elm for a day filled with teamwork, creativity, fun and plenty of laughter.
The day began with a variety of games and team-building activities organised by Ms Divine. These activities encouraged students to work together, communicate effectively and develop respect for one another. The students embraced the challenges enthusiastically, building their confidence while getting to know their new classmates.
Following the morning's team-building activities, students took to the basketball court where their competitive sides really came to the fore! The games provided another great opportunity for students to work together, support their teammates and, most importantly, have fun.
After break, Ms Sweeney organised a fantastic art session. The students had the opportunity to relax and express their creativity by painting individual canvases. Each student chose an image that had a particular meaning or connection to them. These canvases will be kept safely and will form part of a special display when the students reach 6th Year and celebrate their graduation – creating a wonderful reminder of their first year at BCC.
Alongside their artwork, each student also wrote a handwritten note to their future self. These personal messages will be stored and opened again in 6th Year, allowing the students to reflect on their experiences, ambitions and memories from the beginning of their secondary school journey.
Throughout the day, our first-year students were fantastic. They fully embraced the activities and demonstrated teamwork, leadership, communication and creativity, while beginning to develop the friendships and sense of belonging that are so important to life in Bunclody Community College.
A special thank you to Year Head Ms Finn for organising the day alongside class tutors Ms Johnston and Ms Tobin. We would also like to thank Ms Divine and Ms Sweeney for organising such engaging activities, and our SNA team, Ms Earle, Ms Sweeney and Ms Tompkins, for their invaluable support throughout the day.
It was wonderful to see our newest students working together, having fun and making memories that they will hopefully look back on fondly when they reach their final year at BCC.
Welcome to Bunclody Community College, 1 Ash and 1 Elm – we look forward to seeing you learn and thrive together, as individuals and as a group, over the coming years!
