Bunclody Community College is extremely proud of students Sam Bolger, Thomas Larkin and Aaron Sharlott, who enjoyed a fantastic few days at the Stripe Young Scientist Competition in the RDS recently.
The trio were awarded a Display Award for their impressive project on “The Firehose Effect”. Their display explored how people can become overwhelmed by the excessive and continuous flow of information, misinformation and disinformation on social media, a topic that is both timely and highly relevant in today’s digital world. Their research, presentation and engagement with visitors and judges stood out over the course of the event.
See the video below in which Sam explains what their project was all about:
During the competition, Sam, Thomas and Aaron also had the opportunity to meet several distinguished guests, including TD Malcolm Byrne, TD Brian Brennan, Assistant Director of NEPS Dr Theresa Tierney, and Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O’Connor. These conversations provided valuable recognition of their work and its wider importance.
In recognition of the quality of their research, the students have been invited to Leinster House to share their findings, an outstanding achievement and a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Sam, Thomas and Aaron were a true credit to Bunclody Community College throughout the competition. Congratulations to them on winning their Display Award and representing the school with such professionalism and enthusiasm. We look forward to seeing what they achieve next.
