There was great excitement and celebration in Bunclody Community College recently as the BCC Book and a Biscuit Club was announced as the winner of the national An Post Battle of the Student Book Clubs competition, earning the title of the best little book club in Ireland.
The competition saw schools from all across the country battling it out through a series of challenging rounds. Throughout the competition, students were asked to create engaging and creative content based on their chosen book, with the public voting for their favourites through Instagram.
The BCC students, Grace, Fedora, Lavinia, Kylie, Brihanna, Sophie, Millie, Darcie, Aoife and Jack, rose to every challenge placed before them. They created a series of imaginative and entertaining videos that captured the spirit of their chosen text and showcased the enthusiasm and talent within the club. The most impressive thing about the event was they way in which the students themselves took ownership and went about creating their submissions themselves, using their own photography and editing skills.In the final round, students were tasked with recreating their favourite scenes from the book using still images, once again demonstrating incredible creativity and teamwork.

Despite facing very stiff competition from much larger schools, many with student populations of over 1,000 pupils, the BCC Book and a Biscuit Club stood out from the crowd. Their hard work and originality paid off as they secured not only the public vote on Instagram but also the judges’ vote, leading to an outstanding national victory.
This achievement is a testament to the strength of the school community in Bunclody Community College. The success of the club shows what can be achieved when students are supported, encouraged, and given opportunities to express their creativity and love of reading.
Special congratulations and thanks go to Ms Kiera Finn of the English Department, who facilitates the Book and a Biscuit Club and oversaw the students’ competition entries throughout the process. Her dedication and encouragement played a huge role in helping the students achieve this incredible success.
This wonderful achievement proves once again that BCC truly puts the “Community” into Community College. Congratulations to all involved on a fantastic accomplishment that has made the entire school community proud.
